VIDEO: Charlevoix’s East Park designated as one of America’s Best Public Spaces
The City of Charlevoix is proud to announce that East Park has been selected as one of America’s Best Public Spaces, a prestigious award given by the American Planning Association (APA). The American Planning Association (APA) is an independent, not-for-profit educational organization that provides leadership in the development of vital communities by advocating excellence in community planning, promoting education and citizen empowerment, and providing the tools and support necessary to meet the challenges of growth and change. Over the past six months the Planning Office has submitted multiple applications making it through several elimination rounds. East Park was chosen from over 300 applicants from all over the United States. Each year APA selects 10 Great Streets, 10 Great Neighborhoods, and 10 Great Public Places that are places of exemplary character, quality, and planning. Places selected represent the gold standard in terms of having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow.
Other winners of this prestigious award include New York’s Central Park, Lincoln Park in Chicago, the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, and the Grand Rounds in Minneapolis. Now we now proudly add the City of Charlevoix’s East Park to the list.
Everyone in Charlevoix should be proud of East Park and should take credit for this award. The citizens, elected officials, city staff, and everyone else involved over the past 80 plus years of the Park’s evolution should be thanked. East Park is one the many great assets that set Charlevoix apart and make our community a wonderful place to live and visit.
